Heart Attack - Keep Your Distance 1983

Photobucket

I'd rather not talk about how much I paid someone for this record... it's the most I've ever spent on a stupid piece of vinyl without trades or anything. Regardless it was worth it to me to be able to own it as it will probably never be booted (although I thought that about this band's first 7" but it was), also this is just one of my favorite hardcore records ever so I had to own it. I could recite these tracks backward from memory with how much I've listened to this record. New York's Heart Attack was very different than their contemporaries, the songs incorporated a lot of punk melody but were crazy, abrasive, and fast enough to most definitely be considered a hardcore record. The drumming is absolutely out of control, coupled with the fake british accent in the vocals hollering over nothing to open the record this music gives me goosebumps. It is also rumored that this record holds the first recorded blast beat of all time. Interesting indeed. Enjoy.

The Insults - Thrasher Go Home 1985

If you like Deep Wound and haven't heard the Insults then you are in for a treat. Fast and snotty hardcore from Michigan that died in obscurity. I was extremely surprised to find that the record had been booted a number of times (two that I have ever seen at random record stores). The original record had a running of 300 or less and were all hand made and glued. This was one of those, 'found it at a record store and screamed out loud because I never thought I'd ever own it on vinyl moments'. Thank you so much whoever booted these.

Antidote - Thou Shalt Not Kill 1983

You'd have to have your head under a rock to have not heard this record at one point considering it's interesting scene-obsession and eventual reissue in the mid-2000s. Hype aside it is a great fucking record all the way through. It's grooves are burned into my brain from flipping it over and over and over. I haven't put it on in at least a year or more up until this point. Great New York Hardcore with some relatively confused lyrics at times. It's not worth looking into the band's reformation and new singer in the late 80s early 90s unless you enjoy some laughs. Listen to the High and Mighty's "Road Warrior" and you'll get the picture.

VKTMS - 100% White Girl 1980

I guess this record sparked some controversy for its time because of Nyna's lyrics to the A-side, she explains in an MRR interview:

"The problem we're having with the song is, it's not the black people, or the Mexicans that dislike the song, it's the white upper class spoiled rotten Berkeley liberals that hate it and hate us, because they're really into guilt and all that kinda shit... The critics missed the point of the song. I was trying to point out that it's dangerous living in the city, especially if you are a woman. It's even worse if you look like a 'punk rocker'. The VKTMS aren't racist, that's ridiculous! We aren't trendy or political, our music doesn't NEED a soapbox to make it stand out. If you look at the racial backgrounds of the band members, the VKTMS are more diverse than many of our contemporaries. It's about time to put all the unnecessary remarks to rest."

Anyhow, this record isn't nearly as good as the first 7" but is worth listening to. The B-side is pretty wild and kind of shows what direction the band was heading in, this is where I began to lose interest. I got this record from a personal collector in Allentown, PA on tour. He sold it to me really cheap, I was pumped!

VKTMS - S/T 1979

I got this record from Judd of Sex Vid, thanks a bunch, it's my favorite release of this San Francisco based band. Punk with attitude, great to skate too, really fucking weird song concepts.
